Travelers prefer online sources when planning a trip

Digital traveler: According to a recent survey conducted by hotel booking site Agoda.com, today's travelers indeed rely mostly on online sources when making travel plans.

In this day and age, where finding the answer for whatever it is you are looking for is as easy as typing a keyword into the keyboard of your laptop or that swish mobile device in your hand, it seems obvious that people use the same method when planning a holiday.

According to a recent survey conducted by hotel booking site Agoda.com, today's travelers indeed rely mostly on online sources when making travel plans.

From over 5,500 Agoda.com global customers who participated in the so-called Travel Smarts survey, up to 34 percent chose online as their preferred online source, followed by blogs and independent websites (28 percent) and travel apps (9 percent). Combined, they took 71 percent of the vote.

“It’s no surprise that more and more travelers trust online sources the most. When travelers turn to internet resources, they benefit from the combined knowledge and experience of countless other travelers, and can also target their research to suit their particular needs in a way they never could before,” said Agoda.com CEO John Brown in a press release on May 27.

Reliable offline sources mentioned by participants included “advice from locals” (13 percent) and printed guidebooks (12 percent).

As for sharing information with others after they’ve traveled, 79 percent of respondents said they posted reviews, commented on blogs or posted on social media about their travel experiences -- as they were only allowed to select one choice.
