Tributes are flooding in for a 29-year-old nurse who sadly died of coronavirus on Sunday. Rebecca Mack, from Morpeth in Northumberland did not have any known underlying health conditions.

The young woman's mum, Marion, spoke to Chronicle Live about losing her daughter so tragically. "She was an absolutely wonderful daughter. We couldn't have wished for a nicer daughter," said Marion. "She was so caring. She was just the light of our lives. I can't even begin to imagine life without her."

Rebecca had previously been a children's nurse at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, however she had more recently taken a job with NHS 111 - the phone service that assists people with urgent medical problems who are unsure what to do.

According to her mum, Rebecca had always known she wanted to go into a caring profession. "She knew from very early on that she wanted to be a nurse," Marion told the newspaper.

Rebecca, who lived alone, had been self-isolating at home after she became ill with coronavirus-like symptoms. She had been very unwell for some time, but had been making daily phone calls to her parents. On Sunday (5 April), the 29-year-old told her mum she thought she was starting to feel better, but on Monday morning, Marion discovered the worst.

Rebecca had passed away at home on Sunday evening, after phoning for an ambulance and leaving her front door open. When paramedics arrived at the scene, the young woman had already died. A COVID-19 test later confirmed she did have the contagious virus, and police officers had to deliver the awful news to her family. The 29-year-old is believed to be one of the youngest healthcare worker to die of coronavirus in the UK.

On Twitter, #RIPRebecca and #RIPBecca were trending yesterday, as people paid tribute to the young woman who needlessly lost her life. "We shall never forget your courage and sacrifice," wrote one person. "Thank you for your dedication," posted another.

Rebecca's grieving mum urged readers to remember how serious the pandemic is, and to be responsible with their actions.

"You think you are going to be safe, but I think this virus is a lot more contagious than anyone realised. It's indiscriminate," she said. "I don't want any other parents to go through what we are going through at the moment."

Our thoughts are with Rebecca's family and friends at this horribly sad time.
