Trio steal RM150,000 worth of jewellery from Penang store

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Three men, including one armed with a pistol, held up a goldsmith shop at Jalan Pasar here yesterday, and escaped with jewellery worth RM150,000.

The 12.35pm robbery took less than five minutes, and the trio escaped on two motorcycles.

Seberang Perai Tengah police chief ACP Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid said there were no customers at the time of the robbery.

He added that the robbers wore black jackets and full-faced helmets, and entered the premises before one of them smashed the glass display cabinet with a hammer and emptied six trays of jewellery.

Police will use footage from the shop's closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera to facilitate investigations, Nik Ros said. -- Bernama
