Trump lauds Navarro’s RNC speech after release from prison

In a post online, former President Trump congratulated his former adviser, Peter Navarro, on recently being released from prison and giving a speech at the Republican National Convention (RNC).

“Congratulations to Peter Navarro, my Harvard educated and brilliant expert on trade, for having endured a totally unfair and unnecessary 4 month stay IN JAIL. VERY UNFAIR!” Trump posted to his Truth Social site.

“He was released on Wednesday and went directly to Milwaukee where he Spoke about his trials and tribulations at the Republican Convention,” Trump’s post said. “He was given a rousing reception, and looked better than he did when Biden put him in – But Biden looks far worse (interesting, isn’t it?)!”

Navarro, an ex-Trump White House trade adviser, took the stage at the RNC just after being released from a federal prison in Miami after serving a four-month sentence for refusing to comply with a congressional subpoena related to the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol.

He was convicted last year of two counts of contempt of Congress: one count for failing to produce documents related to the investigation and another for skipping his deposition before the House committee investigating the attack.

Navarro attempted to remain free while appealing the conviction but his last effort was shot down by Chief Justice John Roberts.

Trump said in May that he would “absolutely” rehire Navarro if he is reelected this fall. Navarro maintains that he doesn’t want a pardon from Trump or President Biden.
