U.S. President Donald Trump dropped into Kentucky Monday (November 4) to rally for the state's governor and rail against the impeachment inquiry.

He urged local voters to send a message to Democrats in Washington by voting to re-elect governor Matt Bevin.

"He's such a pain in the ass but that's what you want. And the job he's done one of the best in the country if not the best, he's been incredible."

According to opinion polls, Bevin may be the country's least popular governor after battles with labor unions and teachers.

But he's taken a narrow lead over his rival in recent weeks after defending Trump against the impeachment probe.

At the rally Trump said Kentuckians need to give Bevin a win or else they'll give pundits ammunition.

"If you lose, they're gonna say... Trump suffered the greatest defeat in the history of the world - this was the greatest ... You can't let that happen to me."

Victories in state races could boost Trump's prospects in the 2020 election as the inquiry steps up.

The Kentucky rally is just one stop on a week of last-minute visits by the president.

He spent Friday (November 1) night trying to lift up a GOP candidate in Mississippi and heads to Louisiana on Wednesday (November 6).
