BAGAN DATUK: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s comments on Saturday pertaining to his nomination as Pakatan Harapan's candidate for prime minister reflect his inconsistent nature, said Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
"It was recently announced that he was named the candidate for prime minister should the opposition win the 14th general election.
"However, today, he came out and said that he had been forced (to accept the nomination).
"I appreciate his consistency in being inconsistent," Zahid, who is also Deputy Prime Minister, told a press conference after closing the Multaqa Permuafakatan programme in Sungai Sumun here on Saturday.
Dr Mahathir’s nomination was announced during Pakatan Harapan’s convention in Shah Alam last week.
Many, including several opposition leaders and activists, had criticised the party’s prime ministerial candidate selection process, saying that it was hastily done. © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
