Twelve, including Datuk Seri, charged with rioting in Penang nightclub row

GEORGE TOWN: Twelve individuals, including a Datuk Seri, were today charged at the magistrate's court here with rioting last Saturday.


All of them claimed trial when the charge was read to them before magistrate Mohamed Amin Shahul Hamid.


The 12, along with several still at large, were charged with rioting at an entertainment outlet in Jalan Burma here about 4am on March 18.


They were Tan Ban Chuan, 46; Loh Peng Kok, 35; Ng Hao Ning, 29; Muhamad Naim Abdull Rahman, 18; J. Shatheeswaran, 24; N. Kartiga, 26; Curtis Veeran, 19; Tan Teong Boon, 24; Teoh Chee Seng, 36; Siow Peir Sheng, 24; Teoh Kim Teik, 20 and Tan Kai Chong, 21.


They were charged under Section 147 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum two years' jail or fine, or both, upon conviction.


Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Fatin Hussin prosecuted while RSN Rayer represented all the accused.


Amin set bail at RM3,000 each with one surety after Rayer applied to the court to grant his clients bail, and fixed May 5 for case management.
