Twilight creator wishes she could make change to original book
Twilight author Stephenie Meyer is back in the vampire universe 12 years after the supposedly final novel in the Twilight franchise, Breaking Dawn, was published.
The writer behind the famous love story of Edward Cullen and Bella Swan has just released new novel Midnight Sun, which re-tells the story of the original Twilight novel from Edward's perspective rather than Bella's.
The first novel may be a way behind her now but Meyer has revealed that being back in the Twilight world has made her look at the book differently, leading her to wish that she'd made a couple of alternate choices.

Speaking to Bustle, she revealed that she really wishes she had made Edward declare his love for Bella earlier, rather than waiting until the Cullen family's baseball game in the latter part of the book to stage the big moment.
"When I was writing Twilight, things felt right," she said. "But then I realized [Edward] absolutely would have told [Bella] he loved her sooner. There's no way he wouldn't have.
"There were certain points where I'm like, 'Yes, he would have said it right here.' And I can't change that. And that's very frustrating.
"He definitely would have after he saved her in Port Angeles," she continued, referring to a moment far earlier in the novel where Bella runs into trouble with a gang of men. "He addresses that mentally where he is kind of surprised, as he thinks over their conversation when he's talking to her again, that he didn't say it.

"He's like, 'Oh, is she not aware?' But still, I feel like if I had the freedom to rework it instead of just telling his side, there would have been some fun changes."
Of course with the events of Twilight already long established, Meyer did find herself slightly confined by plot points that had to happen, just from a different perspective, and she admitted that this was a challenge at times.
"Part of the struggle of writing [Midnight Sun] was there wasn't much room for me to readdress and to make changes. I've been locked into the story," she said. "I knew what Edward was thinking and feeling [when I was writing Twilight]. So for me there aren't a lot of surprises, and I wish that there was more room for changes."
However considering that Midnight Sun is almost twice as long as Twilight and Meyer has promised that there is "so much more" to the story there will definitely be plenty of new material for fans to devour, including what Edward got up when he wasn't with Bella (he doesn't sleep after all, so he must have kept himself busy).
Midnight Sun has been a long time coming for fans as Meyer had planned to release it way back in 2008 but cancelled the release after the manuscript leaked online.
She changed her mind earlier this year, saying, "Some of you have been waiting for just so, so long. It didn't seem fair to make you wait anymore. Sorry about the bad timing. Hopefully this book can be a distraction from the real world."
