Twins That Cook are an innovative baking duo who push the flavor boundaries of baked goods with delicious eye-catching products that sweetly shatter conventions, reshaping the business of baking one pastry at a time.
Sisters and founders Maya and Aria Christian, started Twins That Cook because they wanted to find a way to stay busy. “It actually started out with cooking first,” Maya tells In The Know. “Aria and I have been cooking forever, and started an Instagram for our cooking and taking photographs.”
Next, the sisters started making sweets, including cookies. “We just noticed a bunch of people asking ‘Hey can you make us a bunch of cookies? Can you just mail me some? Can I pay you $20 to mail us a box of cookies?’” Aria tells In The Know. “Fast forward, you know, a few months later, we had a couple of local businesses asking if we would provide cookies for their bakeries or their ice cream shops.”
Twins That Cook are fresh on the scene, having only decided to “actually be an LLC” in March, but the sisters are already feeling the positive impact that they’re having on their community. “Being women of color and being family-based, we’re really inspiring a lot of people and that’s definitely rewarding,” Maya tells In The Know. “That might be the best part of all of this,” adds Aria.
As for the goodies themselves, Twins That Cook specializes in treats that seamlessly blend unique flavors with elegant presentation. Like the Champagne Poppy cookie, which is brown butter-based and topped with 24k gold flakes. And the Peanuts n’ Crackerjack cookie, which is a peanut butter cookie topped with peanut butter and real caramel popcorn. There’s also their take on the classic brownie, which according to the sisters, is a “fudgy chewy brownie,” that’s “unreal.” What could be better than that?
While one of their signature cookies is inspired by their grandmother’s gingerbread recipe, the rest of the recipes are totally new ideas. “We spent months and months creating these,” Aria tells In The Know. “Some of them were on the spot, some of them took two weeks to create, some of them took literally three days.” And the sisters aren’t afraid to get inspiration from wherever they can find it. The Champagne Poppy cookie, for example, was inspired by Drake’s Instagram handle.
As for the future of Twins That Cook, Aria hints that some savory food might be in the company’s future. But overall, the sisters’ main goal is to “try and get our love everywhere,” Maya tells In The Know. “We do US shipping, and we want to make it easier for you to get them.”
