Twitter index: Obama named Time's 'Person of the Year’

On Wednesday, December 19, Twitter users are buzzing about the news the US President Barack Obama has been named by Time Magazine as its Person of the Year for 2012.

The magazine's annual Person of the Year award is seen as an indicator of the events of the year-to-date. Time has been naming a person of the year (formerly Man of the Year) on an annual basis since 1927, and previous winners include Mahatma Gandhi, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Stalin and Charles De Gaulle. In 2011 the honor went to "The Protester" -- a nameless and faceless representative of those around the world who took part in uprisings and mass social movements such as the Arab Spring or the global "Occupy" protests.
