Twitter Indonesia Country Head Roy Simangunsong announced on a series of tweets on Friday that he is resigning from the position.

After two years in the position, he will be moving on to handle “strategic project” under the leadership of Maya Hari, Twitter Managing Director for India and Southeast Asia.

He also announced the appointment of Novita Jong as the new Industry Head of Twitter Indonesia.

“We will continue on working together to ensure a smooth transition process,” Simangunsong wrote on his timeline.

“Indonesia is one of the countries with the most Twitter users … Twitter will remain highly committed to Indonesia and there will be more talents joining our representation office,” he wrote.

Thanking his followers, Simangunsong also tweeted some milestones that the company had achieved under his leadership, from partnership with brands and users to events such as #KarenaTwitter (“BecauseOfTwitter”) which encouraged users to tweet about their most memorable experience as Twitter user.

“I believe that Twitter is the best place for the Indonesian public to see what’s going on with the world, right here, right now,” he wrote.

Prior to leading Twitter operations in Indonesia, Simangunsong had worked in various tech giants from Microsoft, IBM, to Yahoo! Indonesia. He was also the CEO of Linkstone Indonesia, a subsidiary of MNC Group that runs news portal Okezone.

In Asia, Twitter had seen several of its executives leaving the company, such as Rishi Jaitly at Twitter India and Kathy Chen at Twitter China. Chen’s appointment was criticised by pro-democracy activists in China due to her military and government background.

Following his resignation as Managing Director for the company’s India, Southeast Asia, Middle East, and North Africa, Parminder Singh has recently been announced as Chief Commercial and Digital Officer at MediaCorp.
