How Twitter reacted to One Direction's 10 year anniversary

One Direction officially turned 10 years old today and, yep, we can't believe it either. As of 23rd July 2020, it's been a whole decade since 1D formed on the X Factor, and it just goes to show that time really does fly when you're having fun ( /listening to 'What Makes You Beautiful' on repeat).

1D themselves marked the occasion last night with a cryptic Instagram post and fans have reacted exactly as you would expect them to, with a perfect mix of excitement and nostalgia.

Taking to Insta yesterday, the official One Direction Instagram account simply shared a text post reading, "10 years of One Direction," with the caption, "Tomorrow! You and me got a whole lot of history #10YearsOf1D".

The band's publicist previously announced they'll be marking the occasion with "a brand new 1D anniversary website, a 10 year celebration video especially made for their fans, and interactive playlists and activations across digital platforms."

True to their promise, 1D launched their '10 years of 1D' playlist this afternoon which, erm, crashed almost instantly.

Some members of the band, Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne, have also taken to socials to acknowledge the anniversary, but up until now the others have remained silent.

In an Instagram post, Liam shared the original text message he sent to his family after being selected for 1D, along with a super cute throwback pic, writing, "What a journey… I had no idea what we were in for when I sent this text to my Dad ten years ago at this exact time the band was formed.

"Thanks to everyone that’s supported us over the years and thanks to the boys for sharing this with me #10YearsOfOneDirection".

Meanwhile, Louis took to Twitter to reflect on the anniversary and he got pretty nostalgic in the process, making a point to thank "ALL" of his bandmates, including Zayn Malik, who left the group in 2015.

Louis wrote, "Feeling pretty emotional today. 10 years!! Spent the morning watching old interviews and performances. Just wanted to send a massive thank you to ALL of my band mates. What we did together was incredible."

He added, "Too many incredible memories to mention but not a day goes by that I don't think about how amazing it was. @NiallOfficial @Harry_Styles @Liam Payne @zaynmalik. So proud of you all individually."

"And to the fans. The people who gave us all these amazing opportunities. You are incredible, your unmatched level of loyalty is something that makes me really really proud," continuing, "Miss it every day!"

While 1D are yet to release their anniversary celebratory content, that hasn't stopped fans going wild on Twitter just off the back of their Insta post and tweets alone.

Some were simply thrilled that Zayn is back in the rest of the boys' good books.

While others basically just have no words.

One fan was concerned that Niall, Harry and Zayn's silence might be due to them being asleep but, come on, they deserve a lie in.

Some were not ready for 1D to reappear, after spending four years getting used to their "hiatus".

Meanwhile, others just kept their message simple.

Just give us a minute, OK?
