Two people were arrested this month for misusing their boarding passes to enter the transit area of Changi Airport.

One went to the transit area to send off his relatives while the other attempted to make a fraudulent GST claim in the area. According to a Facebook post by the Singapore police on 20 Feb, the arrests were made on 16 and 17 Feb.

In January alone, 10 people were arrested for misusing boarding passes to enter airport transit areas compared to 28 arrests for the same offence for the whole of 2016, said police.

At Changi Airport, only passengers fully intending to proceed to the next destination are allowed to enter the transit area, with a valid boarding pass and correct passport.

The transit areas of Changi Airport are gazetted as Protected Places. Those who misuse their boarding passes to enter them, with no intention to proceed to their next destination, may be prosecuted and, if convicted, could face a fine of $1,000 or imprisonment for a term of two years or both.
