Two businessmen face the gallows for trafficking, possessing 57.7g of drugs

MALACCA: Two businessmen are facing the gallows for allegedly trafficking and possessing drugs totalling to 57.7g in Ujong Pasir here last month.

However, no plea was recorded from Mohamad Izzat Adnan, 30, and Khairol Fadly Johari, 33, after the charges were read out to them before magistrate Analia Kamaruddin at the magistrate’s court here, today.

The two friends are facing the death penalty if found guilty under Section 39B (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

They were jointly-charged with trafficking 51g of methamphetamine at a house in Jalan Masjid Ujong Pasir at 11.30pm on Apr 18, 2017.

They were also charged with possessing 6.7g of 3,4-methylenedioxy-methamphetamine (commonly known as Ecstasy), which is an offence under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

The duo was unrepresented while the case was handled by deputy public prosecutor Shazreen Nadia Saaban.

The court has set June 7 for mention.
