Two children drown, five still missing, in Bukit Beruntung fishing tragedy


KUALA LUMPUR: A search and rescue operation is underway for five children who were among eight who slipped and fell into a river at Bukit Beruntung here today.

Aged between 10 and 13, the eight children are believed to have been fishing on the river bank when they fell into the water.

One boy managed to save himself, while two children were later found drowned.

“At 6.44pm, rescuers found (the bodies of) two of the children, about 50 metres from (where they had been fishing),” said Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations) Mohd Sani Harul.

“The search is underway for the five remaining victims,” he added.
