Two dead, three injured in Geylang fire

A fire broke out at 86A Lorong 6 Geylang at about 4am Friday, said the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).

SCDF personnel arrived at the scene within five minutes and found black smoke coming out of the second floor unit of the building.

The fire was extinguished in 30 minutes, and fire fighters found two persons lying motionless in one of the rooms.

The two were pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

Two other people were sent to the Singapore General Hospital for burn injuries and one was sent to Tan Tock Seng Hospital for a sprained wrist.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
