KUCHING: Police crippled a drug trafficking syndicate with the arrest last week of a local woman and a Nigerian who recently graduated with a master’s degree.

The suspects were arrested by police at two separate locations here, on Apr 13.

Acting on a tip-off, police picked up the 25-year-old woman from her office in Jalan Rock here, at 1.50pm on Thursday.

State Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department head Superintendent Sahar Abd Latif said the woman, who is a clerk with a private company, had just received a parcel when she was arrested.

"Police found 962 grams of syabu and 1,299 ecstasy pills, wrapped in aluminium foil, inside the consignment from Kuala Lumpur," he told reporters here today.

Investigations on the woman led police to arrest the foreigner.

The man, who had just completed his master's degree at a private university here, was arrested at his rented apartment in Jalan Satok, about three hours after the first arrest.

The case, said Sahar, is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
