Two killed, five injured in Pekan MPV crash


PEKAN: Two people were killed and five injured when the multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) they were in crashed into a steel roadblock at KM33 of Jalan Chini-Terapai here today.

The dead were identified as Muhammad Amirul Dzulkifli, 24 and his sister-in-law, Afizah Abdullah, 28, from Felda Chini Timur 1, here. Both died at the scene in the 10.45am accident.

Muhammad Amirul’s elder brother, 30-year-old Mohd Zulfazli, who was driving the vehicle; his mother Rosliza Ismail, 50; and three other unidentified family members, including a 4-year-old were hurt.

“They are believed to have been on their way from Felda Chini to Felda Bukit Mendi in Triang, Bera.

“The (single-vehicle) incident caused the Toyota Unser they were in to tip over and roll. (Its front is) severely damaged,” said Pekan district deputy police chief Superintendent Mohd Zaidi Mat Zin.

He said the two bodies were taken to the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital in Temerloh, and that an investigation is being carried out under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
