Two men claim trial to separate charges of trafficking syabu

KANGAR: Two men claimed trial at the Magistrate’s Court here today to a separate charge of trafficking 27.9kg and 26.9kg of methamphetamine (syabu) in Padang Besar here on Feb 19.

Ku Hoay Chew, 28, and Chan Kah Kin, 32, are accused of committing the offense at Padang Besar police headquarters.

Ku, from Alor Star, Kedah is charged with trafficking 27.9kg syabu at about 5pm on Feb 19 at the Padang Besar police headquarters, while Chan, from Cheras, Kuala Lumpur is accused of trafficking 26.9kg of syabu at about 5.05pm the same day and place.

Both are charged under Section 39B(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries mandatory death penalty upon conviction.

The duo nodded when the charges were read by before Magistrate Mohd Azhar Hamzah but no plea was recorded.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Nisla Abdul Latif prosecuted, while both accused were not represented.

The court then fixed May 9 for mention date, pending a report from the Chemist Department.
