Two men lost a total of RMB (S$1061) after they fell prey to an iCloud scam in Singapore.

According to the Singapore Police Force, the two men were added as friends by unknown women on online dating apps Tan Tan and Gmu. They then continued their conversations on WeChat. The men were asked to log into the women’s iCloud accounts using their own phones to help “shortlist some photographs”.

After they logged into the accounts, they were locked out of their phones.

The women demanded money from the men in exchange for unlocking their phones. Despite making several payments to the women, the phones remained locked.

The police advise members of the public to be cautious when receiving unsolicited requests on social media applications, and not to log into strangers’ iCloud accounts using their own iPhones. They should also refrain from making payments and should lodge a police report if they suspect they have been scammed.
