ALOR STAR: The second and third flood mitigation parcels involving Sungai Kedah and Sungai Anak Bukit are expected to be completed in June next year.
The state Housing, Local Government, Water Supply, Water Resources and Energy Committee chairman Datuk Badrol Hisham Hashim said the second parcel involving a 12.6km upgrading work at Sungai Anak Bukit while the third parcel, involved upgrading work on a 22.75km stretch of river in Sungai Anak Bukit, Sungai Pauh and the Muda Agriculture Development Authority (Mada) main irrigation canal.
“The second parcel is over 71 per cent completed while the third parcel is 62 per cent completed. We are confident that both parcels will be completed by June 2018,” he told reporters after visiting the Sungai Raja Pump Station here today.
Also present was the Kedah Drainage and Irrigation Department director Kamal Mustapha.
He said the first parcel involved an upgrading work at the Sungai Baru and Sungai Kubang Rotan was fully completed in 2012.
Badrol said the flood mitigation project can help to reduce flood problem by 50 per cent especially in the Kota Setar, Pokok Sena and Jitra areas.
On a similar note, Badrol said the flood mitigation project in Baling and southern Changlun would kicks off before end of this year.
He said both projects that cost about RM60 million are expected to ease the flood woes in Changlun and Baling area.
