Two policemen remanded over probe involving monthly graft payments

ALOR STAR: Two policemen have been remanded for six days to facilitate an investigation into a graft case involving RM4,500 in monthly payments since Jan last year.

The two, a sergeant major aged 57, and a corporal, aged 53, arrived at the Alor Star Court Complex at about 9.30am this morning for remand proceedings accompanied by MACC officers.

It is learnt that the duo received the money from about 10 lorry operators in Kulim.

The men allegedly asked for between RM200 and RM300 for each of the lorries owned by each operator.

The money was for not taking action on the lorries for various traffic offences under the Road Transport Act 1957.

Their activities were busted after one of their victims lodged a report with MACC recently.

The men are being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009 for abusing their positions to accept graft.
