GEORGE TOWN: Two Road Transport Department (RTD) personnel, including a senior enforcement assistant, have been remanded for alleged corruption at the Magistrate’s Court here today. Magistrate’s Court assistant registrar Muhammad Azam Md Eusoff issued a five-day remand order against the duo until Aug 10. The duo, a 35-year-old RTD senior enforcement assistant and a 38-year-old RTD administrative assistant, were escorted by the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) officers to the court at about 10.50am. They were remanded under Section 16 (a) (B) of the MACC Act 2009 for accepting gratification. Sources close to the investigation said the duo were involved with corrupt practice while the RTD senior enforcement assistant was working at a branch in Penang. “They had allowed the renewal of driving license that had been expired for a year without going through proper procedure,” said the source. They were nabbed yesterday during Op Tutup by MACC. Yesterday, six more individuals, including a northern state RTD deputy director, were remanded for between four and five days. The six were detained on three separate cases involving insurance transactions, vehicle licensing and summons. © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
