Two teenage boys have been charged after a 12-year-old girl was stabbed on the weekend.

The 13-year-old and 15-year-old, who cannot be named because of their ages, are due to appear at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, South Wales Police said.

Officers were called to a report of an assault near the Harbour Road car park at Barry Island, Vale of Glamorgan, at about 17:00 GMT on Sunday.

The girl suffered multiple stab injuries and remains in hospital, police said.
