Two Territorial Army personnel injured in Taiping highway mishap


TAIPING: Two Territorial Army Regiment (Wataniah) personnel were injured when the truck they were in was involved in an accident at KM213 of the North-South Expressway here this morning.

The duo were identified as Johny Anak, Mohamed Azizan Mohamed Afandi, both 36. Another passenger, who is a storekeeper, R. Kalaselvam, 36, was also injured in the 10.15am incident.

Taiping district police chief Assistant Commissioner Harith Kam Abdullah said initial investigation revealed that they were heading to Taiping from Ipoh.

“During the incident, the truck driver was trying to avoid a lorry which suddenly entered the right lane.

“The truck driver, however, lost control of the vehicle in the process and rammed the road divider before it turned on its side,” he said.

Harith Kam said the victims were rushed to the Taiping Hospital while the truck was taken to the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom) for further checks.

The case is being investigated under Section 43 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving.
