Two women, aged 31 and 40, have been arrested over their suspected involvement in an Internet love scam.

The crime involved a 41-year-old victim, who had “gotten to know an unidentified man online in May 2016 and was led to believe that she was getting into a romantic relationship”, said a police release.

The victim was convinced to transfer close to £43,500 (S$78,100) to an overseas bank account on two occasions but was later advised by a friend to lodge a police report, which was done on Sunday (17 July).

The suspects were arrested along Bedok Road on Monday (18 July), with $20,000 in cash being recovered from one of the suspects.

Police investigations into the matter are ongoing.
