Two World Titles Change Hands, Two World Champions Defend Belts At ONE: INSIDE THE MATRIX

Two new World Champions were crowned and a pair of defending World Champions continued their reigns at ONE: INSIDE THE MATRIX on Friday, 30 October.

The action at the Singapore Indoor Stadium came to a peak with the main event clash between two-division World Champion Aung La “The Burmese Python” N Sang and Reinier “The Dutch Knight” De Ridder, as the two men battled for the Burmese star’s ONE Middleweight World Title.

It only took De Ridder a few minutes to do what he had vowed to do – take the World Champion down and choke him out.

The finish came at 3:26 of the first round when “The Dutch Knight” sank in a rear-naked choke that forced Aung La N Sang to tap.

In the night’s co-main event, ONE Lightweight World Champion Christian “The Warrior” Lee retained his belt against #1-ranked contender Iuri Lapicus.

Lapicus shot in quickly for a takedown and looked to dominate as he maneuvered between attacking and defending on the ground.

But Lee proved to martial arts fans around the world why he’s the World Champion. In a scramble, “The Warrior” caught Lapicus with three hammerfists that forced the referee to stop the action at 2:19 of round one.

Aung La N Sang’s teammate, Martin “The Situ-Asian” Nguyen, didn’t have much luck either in his bout with challenger Thanh Le.

The two athletes contested for Nguyen’s ONE Featherweight World Title, but it wasn’t long before the clash turned into a firefight. Le threw heat at Nguyen, scoring a KO win over the World Champion at 2:19 of round three with a shattering left-right punching combination.

In the night’s first World Championship bout, ONE Strawweight World Champion “The Panda” Xiong Jing Nan defended her strap in a rematch with #1-ranked contender Tiffany “No Chill” Teo.

That bout was the only World Title clash go the distance, and Xiong earned a hard-fought unanimous decision.
