Uber reviewing Asia operations following bribery probe: Bloomberg

Uber and ComfortDelGro launch UberFLASH, offering up to 10% cheaper fares

Uber has hired a law firm to check payment records and interview its staff

The laundry list of Uber’s scandals continues to grow (will it ever let up?) with the ride-sharing giant now conducting a review of its Asia operations following a bribery probe.

A Bloomberg report said that in August the US Department of Justice launched a preliminary investigation into whether Uber’s company managers broke US laws — namely, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act — by bribing foreign officials.

O‘Melveny & Myers LLP, a law firm Uber hired in June to investigate the mishandling of medical records of a passenger who was raped in India, will be scrutinising foreign payment records and conducting interviews with Uber’s staff.

The report added that the suspicious activity in at least five Asian markets — China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia and South Korea — are being investigated by the attorneys.

Uber is alleged to have made payments to the Malaysian government in order to influence lawmakers. Uber has also informed US officials about financial arrangements conducted by its Indonesian staff.

Last month, Uber confirmed the appointment of Expedia CEO Dara Khosrowsashi as its new CEO. Since then, Khosrowsashi has been focussing on bringing on top legal talent and a CFO to steady the rocky ship.
