Who are UD Ibiza? Barcelona's Copa del Rey opponents profiled
For Barcelona's players, Ibiza is a place more associated with summer fun than with playing football.
Many members of Barca's squad, including Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, spend a part of their holidays on the island. But on Wednesday evening, the Catalans travel to Eivissa for more serious business in the Copa del Rey.
Union Deportiva Ibiza host the Blaugrana in the last 32 of the revamped cup competition and the trip to the Balearic island will be the first away fixture for new coach Quique Setien, who kicked off with a 1-0 win at home to Granada at Camp Nou on Sunday.
UD Ibiza were founded very recently, in 2015, by a group of businessmen led by former Valencia president Amadeo Salva. The club gained promotion to Spain's Tercera Division in their second season and despite only finishing third in the following campaign, they were moved up to the Segunda B after Lorca were demoted by the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) due to outstanding debts.
The islanders are currently third in their division of Segunda B (the category is divided into four groups), five points behind Atletico Madrid B and Atletico Baleares at the league's halfway stage.
Coached by former Sevilla and Barca defender Pablo Alfaro, UD Ibiza play at Can Misses, a stadium which was built in 1991 and has a current capacity of 4,500. The pitch is an artificial surface.
Gianluca Simeone, son of Atletico Madrid coach Diego, plays for Ibiza's youth side Sant Rafel, on loan from Argentine club Gimnasia y Esgrima.
