UFC fighters show us their at-home workouts during coronavirus pandemic

UFC fighters are in a complicated position as gyms are closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, yet many events will take place as scheduled. Athletes needed to quickly develop home workouts so they can continue to train even in quarantine. Luckily for us, some UFC fighters have shared their at-home routines on social media, so all of us stuck inside could follow along and train like professional athletes.

Michelle Waterson

Michelle Waterson was scheduled to face Carla Esparza on April 11. While her fight ended up getting canceled, the No. 8 ranked women’s strawweight needs to be ready for whenever the UFC gives her the call to reschedule.

“The Karate Hottie” takes us through a five-minute workout that she (with the help of her daughter) performs in the comfort of her kitchen. The workout models the intensity of a five-minute MMA round. So whether you want to train for a standard three-round fight or gearing up for five championship rounds, this workout will be sure to get the heart pumping.

Alexander Volkanovski

UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski is joined by his daughters and dog in this quick and fun at-home workout. He starts with a stretch to improve flexibility and mobility, which is crucial to stay injury-free while training. His next exercise is some simple jumping to raise the heart rate. Volkanovski takes it to the next level and uses a trampoline to show off his acrobatics.

The Australian is like many of us who don’t have access to weights at home. He adapts and uses his daughter to get his chest workout. If nothing else, Volkanovski’s workout will brighten your day as he shows you could still have fun even in these dark times.

Forrest Griffin

“The Ultimate Fighter” season one winner Forrest Griffin currently works as the vice president of athlete development at the UFC Performance Institute. While he no longer fights in the Octagon, it looks like he is still ready to compete.

The UFC Hall of Famer takes us through a workout with enough punches, kicks and rolls that will trick your body into thinking you’re in a real bout. If you’re looking to begin MMA training, this full-body routine is the perfect workout.

Chris Weidman

Former middleweight champion Chris Weidman is getting ready for his bout against Jack Hermansson, which is just over a month away. This period is possibly the most crucial time for fighters as they need to begin shedding weight and have their final sparring sessions before their fight.

Unfortunately, Weidman does not have the luxury of working with a full team. But, he does have his 8-year-old son to motivate him as they push through this workout together. With minimal equipment, they perform a grueling routine to get him fight ready.

Weidman’s dreams of regaining his belt seem just out of his reach at this point in his career, but if his son stays this disciplined, there may be another Weidman with a belt in no time.

Henry Cejudo

I would expect nothing less from the king of cringe Henry Cejudo. The current bantamweight, former flyweight champion and Olympic gold wrestler put his hardware to good use in this at-home workout. He does demonstrate a good point that you could substitute expensive equipment for everyday items you have around your house. He finishes off his training with a CDC-approved 20-second hand wash.

Let’s hope he is training a bit harder for his upcoming bantamweight title fight against Jose Aldo on May 9.

Chase Hooper

UFC prospect Chase Hooper might take the cake with his “Mission Impossible”-style workout. Complete with target practice, high-flying swings, a car chase and some combat mixed in, this is perfect for getting prepared for any upcoming action scene. Get Tom Cruise on the phone when he’s looking for a training partner for his next movie.
