Dominic Cummings has said he does not regret his actions and insisted that he behaved "reasonably" when he drove to County Durham during the UK's coronavirus lockdown.

In a highly unusual press conference in the rose garden of 10 Downing Street, the embattled adviser claimed he made the journey because of fears over a lack of childcare if he became incapacitated with Covid-19, but also concerns about his family's safety.

The statement came as Boris Johnson faced a possible revolt from his own party over his defence of Mr Cummings‘ multiple alleged trips to Durham, with opposition parties and a growing number of Tories calling for an inquiry into the chief political aide’s behaviour.
