A senior government minister has said the public should "move on" from the row over Dominic Cummings' alleged breaches of lockdown as calls for Boris Johnson's adviser to resign continued to grow on Wednesday.

Robert Jenrick, the housing, communities and local government secretary, rejected calls for Mr Cummings to step down and told the BBC's Breakfast programme: "That's not to say this isn't an important issue or that people don't care about it, but I think there's a lot more that we need to focus on now."

His comments come as the prime minister is questioned by senior MPs this afternoon over the government's response to the coronavirus crisis amid a growing revolt over Mr Cummings, with at least 40 Tory MPs having called publicly for the adviser to go and a YouGov poll showing a nine point drop in the Conservative's lead over Labour - the sharpest sudden poll slump in a decade.
