Ukraine's Zelenskiy meets Senate leader McConnell

STORY: Fellow Republican party senators Susan Collins, John Barrasso and John Cornyn were part of the group who shook hands with the Ukrainian leader before posing for a group photograph.

Zelenskiy posted a video clip of the meeting on social media and wrote the visit was “a powerful signal of bipartisan support for Ukraine from the United States Congress and the American people. Thank you for your leadership in helping us fight not only for our country but for democratic values and freedoms.”

On Thursday (May 12) Democrat and Republican senators had joined forces in a rare moment of unity in an attempt to pass a $40 billion aid package for Ukraine, only to be stymied by a single Republican lawmaker Senator Rand Paul. The stalemate delayed passage of the measure into next week.
