PAGOH: Some 1,000 participants took part in the Johor-leg of the Umno 71st anniversary flag run that covered a 45km route from the Pagoh Sports Complex to the Johor-Melaka border today.

The participants comprised members from the Pagoh, Muar, Bakri and Ledang Umno divisions in northern Johor and coincided with a mini carnival featuring traditional games and other activities.

Johor Umno Youth chief Hahasrin Hashim, who flagged off the participants here today, said the participants were mostly members of the party’s youth movements.

He said that about 300 of those participants began their run from Pagoh.

The 1,000 participants are expected to arrive at the Sungai Rambai bridge by late afternoon.

“There will be participants on motorcycles, in 4WD and on foot.

“The objective is to show the spirit of Team Johor and the spirit of solidarity of youths in the party,” Hahasrin said.

Johor Umno Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin will meet the participants and later hand over the flag to Melaka Umno Liaision Committee chairman Datuk Seri Haron Idris.

Melaka Umno Youth chief Senator Datuk Zali Md Yasin is also expected to be at the handover of the flag for the continuation of the flag run in Malacca.
