Umno, consistent in championing people's rights

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno's consistency in championing the rights of the people has contributed to the party's success in past general elections, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Najib, who is also Umno president, said unlike the opposition, Umno and Barisan Nasional had always reached out to the grassroots and help the needy.

"We go from door to door to give aid to those in need. God willing, they will realise the opposition parties only know how to hurl accusations but they cannot do any work.

"Unlike Umno and BN, they lack an agenda (to serve the people) and that is why Allah has given victory to us in every general election," he said at the launch of 'Umno Bantu Rakyat' programme at SK Taman Kosas here, this evening.

The programme aims to provide assistance to some 300,000 needy Malaysians living in rural areas throughout the country.

A convoy will travel to 21 locations from today until June 1 to provide free medical check-ups, free National Education Savings Scheme (SSPN) accounts to 15,000 families and 40,000 free Tabung Haji accounts to needy children, among others.

The convoy will resume its journey after the Hari Raya celebrations by visiting a total of 71 locations, which signifies Umno's 71 years of existence.

Present were Selangor Umno chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar, Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, and Umno welfare bureau chairman Datuk Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah.
