KANGAR: The numbers of state-level Umno Flag Run 2017 participants continue to rise along the 41km route from Padang Besar to Kodiang.

Initially, only 100 participants clad in red t-shirts were present at the starting point in Padang Besar but the number rose to 500 at the Arau transit in Kubang Gajah.

The run was not only participated by Umno leaders and members but it was also joined by some 50 members of component parties namely MCA and MIC as well as Barisan Nasional supporters.

Despite the scorching weather, the runners were in high spirits when they took off to Kodiang at 3.15pm, led by the state Umno Liaison Committee Chairman Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim who will later hand over the flag to Kedah Umno Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah at the Kedah and Perlis border.

Earlier, Padang Besar Umno division deputy chief Azizan Sulaiman, who flagged off the run, handed over the flag to Kangar Member of Parliament Shaharuddin Ismail, who later passed over to Arau Umno division secretary Seruandi Saad.
