KUALA LUMPUR: Pas will be invited to attend the launch of Umno’s annual general assembly (AGM) on Sept 29, said Umno secretary-general Tan Sri Annuar Musa.
He said Umno has yet to send out an official invitation, adding that the working committee has agreed to invite all opposition parties including Pas.
However, he said, those invited will not be considered delegates or observers during the assembly but only as guests.
He said besides Pas, Umno will also invite Gabungan Parti Sarawak, Gerakan and Barisan Nasional component parties MIC and MCA.
Asked whether this year’s AGM will discuss the possibility of a political alliance between Pas and Umno, the Ketereh member of parliament said the issue is not part of the agenda.
However, he said, Umno delegates would not be prevented from proposing the idea, adding that it was up to the party’s top leadership to accept or reject it.
Meanwhile, Annuar said Umno will be sending 10 representatives, led by party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to Pas' 64th Muktamar in Kuala Terengganu this weekend.
“This is a historic moment for both parties because Umno will attend Pas’ Muktamar and likewise, they will attend Umno's general assembly,” he said. © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
