Muafakat Nasional partners Umno and PAS have agreed to contest GE15 using their own logos.

They have also agreed to register the pact and not clash against each other in any seats.

Speaking to Malaysia Gazette in an interview published last night, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said these decisions were made to strengthen the alliance against external and internal “threats”.

“There are definitely those who feel they have been weakened by this alliance of ours, this strength of the ummah.

“Politics is not static, it is a very dynamic thing. Some are definitely using tactics, ways and strategies to destroy this partnership.

“Not just attempts from outside but there are also attempts to divide us from within. To divide and conquer us,” he said, not naming names.

Zahid (photo) said Muafakat decided in last week’s meeting to register as a political entity.

The two parties have also agreed to have their machinery to work together when campaigning.

“Should there be a general election soon or at the end of the term, we have decided that Umno and PAS will not clash against each other in the seats that we have decided on.

“And we will use our own logos as long as we do not clash,” he added.

During the interview, Zahid did not mention how Perikatan Nasional partner Bersatu was accepted into Muafakat Nasional back in August.

There has appeared to be some dissonance over Bersatu’s involvement in Muafakat Nasional in recent months.

The pact was supposed to meet over Bersatu’s entry last month but the meeting did not materialise.

According to BN secretary-general Annuar Musa, PAS has indicated it will only work with Umno in GE15 if Bersatu is included as a partner.

Umno Youth chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, however, insisted that the pact should remain between Umno and PAS only.
