PETALING JAYA: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has described the newly forged relationship between Umno and PAS as: "No longer hiding within the four walls of the room."
"Last time, they were hiding in the room. Now, they are out of the room. But when they were in the room, we know about it," said the Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman when asked on his opinion about the recent cooperation between Umno and PAS.
Dr Mahathir was speaking to reporters after chairing the PH presidential council meeting at Yayasan Selangor here today.
Umno president, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said yesterday the cooperation between PAS and Umno was not just rhetoric.
“Today is a big day, a historical day, as I am here to give a talk at a PAS ceramah,” he said at a PAS ceramah to support Dr Halimah Ali who is the candidate for the Seri Setia by-election.
The by-election on Sept 8 will see PH candidate Halimey Abu Bakar go head-to-head against Dr Halimah.
The Seri Setia state seat fell vacant after incumbent assemblyman and Selangor executive councillor Prof Dr Shaharuddin Badaruddin died Aug 2 after a battle with cancer.
Meanwhile, at the meeting today, Dr Mahathir said the presidential council also discussed on the Sarawak state election which might be held next year or the year after.
"We discussed on the role PH will play in Sarawak's state election. It is a bit too early, to confirm our standing," said Dr Mahathir. © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
