The United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) announced the first five names on its senatorial slate Thursday, adding it is still screening names for a full 12-candidate ticket.
In a statement, UNA said it will be fielding Senator Aquilino Pimentel III and Jose De Venecia III from PDP-Laban, and Cagayan Representative Juan Ponce Enrile Jr. and San Juan City Representative Joseph Victor Ejercito of Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino in the 2013 elections. Senator Gregorio Honasan II, an independent, is the fifth man on the ticket.
"There are nine remaining slots and UNA is faced with a happy dilemma: we have more than nine names under consideration," UNA said.
UNA, a coalition between Vice President Jejomar Binay's PDP-Laban and former President Joseph Ejercito Estrada's PMP, will announce the final list "at the proper time," the statement said.
Among the names previously floated as potential UNA candidates are Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia and Zambales Representative Milagros Magsaysay.
UNA leadership has decided to limit membership within the PDP-Laban and PMP ranks but can adopt "guest" candidates.
"Lists or names mentioned by personalities outside the UNA secretariat are only speculative," it said. The UNA secretariat is headed by Navotas City Representative Tobias Tiangco.
