Drivers of Malaysia, a reminder that while double-parking is so very much a part of daily life that we would rather leave our personal mobile numbers on our windscreens than look for a legit space, there are those of us out there who are fed up with it, and will no longer be entertaining inconsiderate drivers.
One such driver was captured on CCTV last week deciding that the best way to deal with a double-parked Honda City blocking their car was to push it out of the way. Using their four-wheel-drive, Toyota Hilux pick-up truck. Repeatedly. In front of a crowd of coffee shop patrons enjoying a late-night cup.
According to Sin Chew Daily, the incident occurred in Bentong, just an hour outside of Kuala Lumpur, and the double-parked Honda allegedly belongs to a former aide of MCA (the Chinese party in the Barisan Nasional coalition) president Liow Tiong Lai.
Eyewitnesses have said that the Hilux driver exited a nearby bar at 11:37pm on the evening of August 5. Noticing that the Honda was blocking his exit, he began to honk his horn repeatedly, with some saying that he tried to get the driver’s attention for 30 minutes.
Noting that the Hilux owner was becoming increasingly enraged, sitting inside their car, many coffee shop patrons backed their plastic tables and chairs from the car in anticipation of a boiling point being reached very, very soon.
Turns out, they were right: Without further ado, the driver of the Hilux reversed directly into the Honda with enough force to cause the back tires to move. Pulling away momentarily, the Hilux backs again into the car, with even greater force than before.
Finally, the Honda driver emerges, and calmly asks the Hilux driver to uh, relax his taxi. However, there is no turning back his flood of rage, and he smashes into the car three more times for good measure.
Where have we seen this before?
Ah, yes. The 90s were great, weren’t they?
The Honda driver appeared nonplussed by the entire order, and would only go to his car to open the rear door, and grab something from inside.
Malaysiakini has indicated that the Honda driver has since filed a police report, based on what appear to be inaccurate facts: He has claimed that there were no available spaces that evening, something the video refutes, and also alleges that he left a name card on the windscreen: No such paper is visible in the CCTV clip.
Rash actions from the Hilux driver, or a dose of comeuppance for an inconsiderate Honda driver? You decide!
