JOHOR BARU: From next month, the University of Reading Malaysia will offer free business skills workshops at its campus in EduCity, Iskandar Puteri.

Head of Henley Business School Malaysia Professor Teck Yong Eng said: “As part of the service to the community, we are committed to up-skilling and educating young people who have not had the opportunity to gain higher education or pursue their dream.”

Teck, who is also Centre for Global Business Enterprise and Cloud Analytics director, said the workshops are aimed at helping young adults and school leavers develop new business skills and plan a successful career.

He said the centre conducts not only research, but also pro-bono activities as part of efforts to give back to the community.

Teck said applicants must be aged between 18 and 30, and mustpossess at least a Pentaksiran Tiga qualification.

“There are no prerequisites for interested applicants apart from their enthusiasm and desire to succeed.

“The workshops are based on real-life business activities and case studies with hands-on opportunities through practical exercises, application of concepts and simulation of business scenarios,” said Teck.

Teck said he hoped that the workshops would be able to impart useful knowledge to the participants, including organisational skills, people management skills, business strategies, financial literacy, marketing and communication.

Workshop participants, he said, would be awarded a certificate upon completing the programme.

Teck said he hoped participants would be able to launch their own businesses or secure meaningful jobs in the future.

According to Professor Teck, the workshops will be conducted once a month every Saturday from 9am to 1pm beginning Jan 27.

The subsequent workshops will be conducted on Feb 24, March 31, April 28, May 26 and July 7.

He said the workshops would comprise of seminars and opportunities for hands-on exercises, quizzes and exercises.
