Unsaid Stories is a new four-part ITV series of short films inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement and written by Black writers.

Tonight's (August 10) short, Generational, focused on a father-daughter relationship around the Black Lives Matter protests and how each of their generations deal with social justice issues.

Nicholas Pinnock starred as Oliver, a dad who discovers his 16-year-old daughter Justina (Yasmin Monet Prince) is attending a BLM protest and forbids her to go.

She tries to reason with him and tells him the protestors are trying to make a difference and educate people about racism, but he stands his ground and tells her protesting isn't the way to help.

Later, she tries again to talk to him and he tells her a really upsetting story about how he and his best friend, Anton, attended a protest themselves when they were younger, but were attacked.

Oliver tells her how he saw some police officers nearby and ran to get help for Anton, but they refused to help him. When he ran back to help, the attackers seemed to realise they had gone too far.

"All of a sudden, they stopped. Every inch of Anton's face was covered with blood. I watched my best friend die," Oliver told Justina.

She then tells her dad she still wants to go to the protest and asks him to go with her, "for protection", and they will protest for Anton.

It was a heartbreaking story which had a hopeful ending as they put their gloves and face coverings on and walked off to join the march together.

Viewers were impressed by the "powerful" storytelling and acting and how it felt like a very "personal" story.

One person wrote: "#UnsaidStories was so sweet....reminds me of a conversation i was having w my mom and dad before the protest and literally so many of my friends had to have too."

Another added: "The first of the #UnsaidStories this eve was so powerful. 12 minutes of truth. That did not feel like "acting" -- they were real emotions + feelings, they ARE real lived experiences."

Unsaid Stories continues tomorrow (August 11) on ITV at 9pm.
