8 Nov – Malaysian animated film "Upin & Ipin: Keris Siamang Tunggal" continues to achieve success after success, as it is set to be screened at Los Angeles' Laemmle Glendale for a week starting from today.

The screening of the Les' Copaque Production movie is done for making the qualifying run for the Best Animated Feature category in next year's Academy Awards.

A total of 32 movies will be competing in the category, according to Animation Magazine, and this marks the first time for an animated film from Malaysia to qualify for it.

It is set to compete for a spot in the Oscar nominees list with fellow toons like ""Frozen II", "Toy Story 4", "How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World", "The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part" and more.

Aside from that, the "Upin Ipin" movie will also be screened today at the Asian World Film Festival that is running for a week, until 14 November, at Culver City's ArcLight Cinemas.

Following its screening in Malaysia earlier this year in March, the animated film was a box office hit as it collected more than RM26 million.

Apart from being screened in several other countries, the movie also won several awards at international film festivals such as the Montreal International Animation Film Festival (ANIMAZE). It also made history for being the only Malaysian title to receive a Best Animated Feature accolade at the Palm Springs International Animation Festival and Expo (PSIAF).

Furthermore, the movie centred on a pair of cheeky twins, Upin and Ipin, will also be representing Malaysia at this December's Asian Academy Creative Awards.
