The United States Embassy on Friday said it is confident that the murdered spouse of an American diplomat will be given justice in the Philippines. George Anikow, the husband of a diplomat assigned to the US Embassy in Manila, was stabbed dead last month by four men outside an upscale village in Makati City reportedly after a heated argument. “The US Embassy carefully monitors the investigation and prosecution of all serious crimes against American citizens.
We are grateful to the Philippine authorities for the prompt arrest and prosecution of the four suspects, and we are confident that justice will be served in this case, in accordance with Philippine law,” it said in a statement. Representatives from the embassy attended the arraignment this week of the four suspects charged with Anikow’s murder. “George, an unarmed, innocent man was fatally stabbed in a brutal, senseless attack by four assailants,” the embassy said. “George’s death is a terrible loss to his family and to the community. He leaves behind three young children, and a grieving widow.” Anikow had lived in Manila for less than 100 days, the embassy said, adding that in short time “he had become a vital member of our embassy community.”
