Usain Bolt tops one million Twitter followers

Jamacian athlete Usain Bolt has passed the one million followers barrier on Twitter.

The record breaking athlete who took gold in the men's 100 meter sprint on Sunday passed the one million Twitter followers barrier on August 7. In thanks to his followers, the sprinter (@usainbolt) tweeted "Big up Twitter fans - one million and counting..."

Bolt is also causing a buzz on Twitter after admitting that he would like to play for English football club Manchester United. The news led United defender and prolific Twitter user Rio Ferdinand (@RioFerdy5) to tweet "if you want that trial at Man Utd shout me, I'll speak to the boss!! Well done in 100m, waiting for you to smash the 200m now!" to the sprinter earlier today.

Meanwhle, surpassing one million Twitter followers last week was British Olympic diver Tom Daley (@Daley1994), who was subject to abuse on the platform, leading to messages of support from users.
