BONGAO, Tawi-Tawi - The Department of Public Works and Highways in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM-DPWH) will be allocating some P169 million for the concreting of roads in eight towns of Tawi-Tawi.
ARMM-DPWH Secretary Emil K Sadain said the new fund for the road concreting project will be drawn from the regular infrastructure budget of the department 2013.
Sadain said the project is aimed at enhancing the economic activity of the province, thus helping improve the socio-economic condition of the poor and marginalized people of Tawi-Tawi.
He said the new funding is on top of the P156 million on-going road concreting project on the island province.
Among the infrastructure projects that the ARMM-DPWH district office here will undertake include the construction of the Sanga-Sanga-Lapid-Lapid Road in this town, covering a distance of 1,700 meters with P39 million fund, the concreting of the Bato-Bato Road in Panglima Sugala up to Kapatagan in this town, covering a distance of 5,000 meters with a fund of P80 million, and the concreting of the Balimbing Road also in Panglima Sugala, covering a distance of 1,000 meters with a P10 million funding.
Some nine strategic infrastructure projects are also in line to support tourism, agriculture, peace and order, public health and sanitation programs of the provincial government, he said.
These include the construction of a P2 million pier head in Barangay Tabawan, and the P5 million concreting of the Likud Tabawan, Likud Dampong to Putad, all in South Ubian, concreting of the Malassa Road (P2 million), the Sapa-Sapa Pokkoan to Likud Sicubong Road (P1 million), the Sapa-Sapa port road (P5 million), the Tanduhbas Road (P5 million), the Sibutu municipal road (P5 million), the Mapun municipal road (P5 million), the Tubig Indangan Road (P5 million), and the concreting of the Mindanao State University (MSU) campus access road (P5 million).
According to ARMM-DPWH Tawi-Tawi District Engineer Bensuot Ajihil, the various infrastructure projects intended for the province was conceptualized by ARMM caretaker-Governor Mujiv Hataman
Ajihil said Hataman had, on many occasions, showed and expressed his concern to help develop the province, thus earmarking a substantial fund for the improvement and upgrading of roads, sea ports, and bridges
Ajihil said this is one of the many reasons why there is an ongoing improvement of vital government infrastructure in the province of Tawi-Tawi.
He said his office was also tasked by Sadain to oversee the construction of all the projects and programs of the ARMM-DPWH in the province.
