Venomous Red-Bellied Black Snake Discovered Inside New South Wales Man's Ute

A New South Wales man had a close encounter with a venomous red-bellied black snake after he discovered it hiding behind the rear seats of his vehicle.

After spotting the tail of the snake, the man called local snake catcher Jack Hogan, who subsequently rescued the snake before releasing it back into the wild.

Hogan, who filmed footage of the capture and shared it on Facebook on December 27, told Storyful that he could not pull the snake from the position he was settled in without risking injury to the reptile.

“After allowing it to move into an easier spot I was able to grab him and safely relocate back into nearby bushland,” he said.

“It is believed that the highly venomous but shy species had entered the car at some point while the owner was parked in the bush near Newcastle and sheltered under the back seats,” he added. Credit: Jack Hogan via Storyful
