Activists Call for Resignation of Taiwan's Education Minister

Hundreds of students rallied outside Tapei’s Ministry of Education on Friday, July 31, to protest over the suicide of an activist who opposed forthcoming changes to the island’s school curriculum. The Anti-Curriculum Changes Alliance blamed his death on the decision of Taiwan’s KMT government to pursue legal action against Lin Kuan-hua, 20, and other students who occupied government buildings on July 24.

Opponents of the new school curriculum argue that it will teach a China-centric view of the island’s history stoking long-standing arguments over Taipei’s relationship with Beijing. Credit: YouTube/Po-ru Lee (李博儒)
