Asked About DNC Email Hack, Russia's Lavrov Hesitates to Use 'four-Letter Words'

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had a simple but sharp answer on Tuesday, July 26, to a reporter’s question on the Democratic Party’s email leak scandal. At least 20,000 emails with content embarrassing to the Democratic National Committee and party leaders were leaked on July 22 by Wikileaks and a supposed hacker. They were stolen much earlier, experts said, by state-sponsored Russian hackers.

“What do you say of US accusations that Russia has Democratic Party emails?” Lavrov was asked. The Russian foreign minister shrugged and said, “Well, I don’t want to use four-letter words.”

US Secretary of State John Kerry straightened up and clasped his hands at the question, appearing uncomfortable. Once the confrontation was over, Kerry lifted his hands in the air before taking a seat with Lavrov.
